The problem
Translation apps assume a fast connection, a keyboard you can type the language on, and that you are fine uploading whatever you photograph. Travel breaks all three.
Online translators stop working exactly where you need them: on the train, in the basement restaurant, at the border.
Kanji, Hangul, Devanagari. If you cannot type the script, a text translator is useless. You need to point at it.
Most camera translators upload every frame to a server. Menus are fine. Passports, prescriptions and contracts are not.

Camera text translation
Point the camera at printed text and the translation appears over the original, aligned to each line. Tap Freeze to hold the frame and read at your own pace, or import a photo or screenshot from your library.
Object scanner
Not everything has a label. Point the scanner at a bicycle, a coffee cup or a croissant and see its name in both languages with pronunciation you can tap to hear. It recognizes over a thousand everyday things.
Text and voice
For conversations and messages, use the Translate tab. Speak or type, the language is detected automatically, and the translation can be spoken aloud, copied or shared. Your history stays on the phone.
59 offline languages
Each language pack is roughly 30 MB. Download the ones you need on hotel Wi-Fi and every mode keeps working on the plane, in the metro and in the countryside. A Wi-Fi-only toggle keeps downloads off your data plan.
Pronunciation and saved words
Every word card shows the word in both languages with a phonetic guide, so 커피잔 becomes KUH-pee-jahn and Sombrero becomes som-BREH-ro. Save the ones you want to keep and build a vocabulary from the world around you.
Private by design
Text recognition, object detection and translation all run on the device. There is no account to create, no photo is uploaded, and it works with airplane mode on. Premium is handled by Apple or Google, not by us.
How it works
Open Offline languages and tap the download icon next to the language you need. Packs are about 30 MB, so it takes a few seconds on Wi-Fi.
Open the Text tab and aim at the sign, menu or label. The translation appears over the original text. Tap Freeze to hold the frame.
Switch to Scan to name objects, or Translate to type or speak. Tap any word to hear it and save it for later.

Very stylized fonts, cursive handwriting and idioms are harder, so a frozen frame and a literal reading of the description line usually help.
